Abortion- Threat to Families

Abortion
Abortion is a very controversial issue, and has been one of the biggest issues of all time. There are many different opinions about abortion. I believe that every child should have a chance to live. We are not allowed to choose if others should live or die after they are born, so why should we be able to choose before they are born? Everyone should have an equal opportunity to live.
According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary the definition of abortion is, “a medical procedure used to end a pregnancy and cause the death of the fetus.” (Merriam-Webster Dictionary). There are approximately 1.21 million abortions in America each year. I think that abortion is taking the life of something that deserves a chance. Usually an abortion is a result of two people’s actions. A child should not have to suffer because of the decisions these two people have made. Everyone should be held accountable for their own decisions.
Ways to Fight Against Abortion

There are many ways that we can fight against abortion. Adoption is a great alternative. In the USA, there are approximately two million infertile couples waiting to adopt, many times regardless of the child’s medical problems such as Down Syndrome, Spina Bifida, HIV infection or terminally ill. Dr. Brad Imler, President of America’s Pregnancy Helpline, confirms the challenge of waiting couples by stating: “Only 1% of the Helpline’s annual 40,000 clients inquires about adoption.” Do mothers considering abortion realize that families actually go on waiting lists to adopt newborn babies? Do they realize that some couples wait years to adopt the baby they’ve desperately waited to hold in their arms? Do mothers realize how many experienced parents with wisdom, resources, and plenty of love are reaching out to adopt another child – no matter his or her race, gender, or disability? Putting your baby up for adoption would give them a chance to live with a family that loves and cares about them. Adoption provides the opportunity for mother, baby, and adoptive parents to begin again; it offers a fresh start.
Another great way to stop abortion is birth control and abstinence. Abstinence is 100% effective in preventing pregnancy. Although many birth control methods can have high rates of success if used properly, they can fail occasionally. Practicing abstinence ensures that a woman won't become pregnant because there's no opportunity for sperm to fertilize an egg.” (Kids Health)
Threat to Families
Abortion is a huge threat to families and children. There are many effects of having an abortion; emotional numbness, Sexual difficulties, Trouble with relationships and intimacy in general, Many women suffer from depression, turn to drugs or alcohol, and have recurring thoughts of suicide, Violence or aggression towards themselves or others. “Abortion does not cure any physical disease or mental disorder. It’s a short-term escape that leads to long-term agony. Women, who have had an abortion, as we have shown, suffer terrible guilt and grief, and the psychological damage often lasts a lifetime. Many women are physically damaged, and cannot have children again. Some women even die in the process, and the baby always dies.”(Family and Life)

There are better alternatives to abortion. The facts and logic behind sparing an embryo human being speaks for itself. After all, if the entire world or even a few of us thought abortion was ok, how many of us wouldn’t be here?
